The Joker is... well, to put it bluntly, insane.  He tends to be extremely violent, and acts largely on impulse.  However, that tends not to work out too well when it comes to roleplaying, so I figure that I should find out what I can or can't have him do.

Can the Joker manipulate your character?  The Clown Prince of Crime can be dangerous even when only armed with words.  He actively seeks out flaws that people have, and uses them to get people to do what he wants.  Even if he doesn't have any goal in mind, he seeks to prove his idea that people can go mad with just one bad day, and he tries his best to give it to them.  However, I know some people wouldn't want their characters dealing with that.

Can the Joker steal from your character?  Some days, the Joker will just roam the city and rob people.  Not for any monetary gain, of course - just to cause havoc, and get a few laughs.  If you don't want your character to go through that, then say so.

Can the Joker kidnap your character?  In the Joker's mind, the best kind of audience is a captive audience.  Besides, having a hostage usually gets Batman, or any of his proteges, to his hideout quicker than anything else would.  Being kidnapped by the Joker doesn't necessarily mean that the character will die, or even be badly injured, as rescue is usually inevitable in these situations, but trauma will probably ensue.

Can the Joker injure your character?  This covers both torture and random impulsive acts.  If the character in question is some sort of heroic figure, he's at least going to try to hurt them - that's unavoidable, even if it might not be particularly effective with some people.  But for torture, and for civilians, injury in general, some people might not be comfortable with threading that, so I might as well ask.

Can the Joker kill your character?  The Joker has one of the highest body-counts in most DC continuities, at least for someone who has no superpowers.  However, if he just went around killing characters at random, it wouldn't be fun for the people who play them.  I know this is subject to change depending on whether or not it's part of a plot, and there are definitely people who the Joker would have no chance at killing, but I figure that I should check beforehand.

Feel free to answer those questions in the comments, or suggest any others that I should include.

Also, as for what your characters can do to him:

Threadjacking?  Go ahead

Backtagging?  Of course

Fourth-Walling?  He'd probably be thrilled to find out that there are so many versions of him out there.  Or angry - it depends on what version of the Joker the character would be familiar with. (generally, he'd be mad if the Joker in question explicitly failed or permanently died, and amused for any other one)  Also, it'd be advised that characters don't mention Batman's identity (or the identity of any of his allies) in his presence - he hates having the punchline ruined. (though, if they know who the Joker is, then they probably know that already)

Mind-Reading?  I don't know if there are any mind-readers in the game, but I might as well cover it.  Characters can try this, but going into the Joker's head, even with the intent to cure him, would be ill-advised - in other DC continuities, his mind is a rather hostile and chaotic environment, and trying to see inside of it ends poorly for anyone who attempts to do so.

Hugging/Kissing/General intimacy?  ...if anyone gets that close without his permission, they'd likely be stabbed, or at the very least, shoved out of the way.  Even Harley isn't entirely lucky in that regard, but she'd probably be the only exception, depending on his mood.

Hitting him?  Let's be honest - he deserves it.

Killing him?  ...Okay, so he deserves this too, but I'd prefer it if his death was part of some sort of plot.  Given his general behaviour, and given that not every hero shares Batman's moral code, it wouldn't be long before his life in-game became an endless series of deaths and resurrections if people could just kill him whenever.

Just for Fenimore here.

Can he manipulate your character? In general, while I enjoy watching villain plots, I generally prefer not to participate if it is reasonable for her to avoid it. If things move in a direction where it would make sense due to, say, CR or some other plotty reasons, talk to me in advance so I know what I might be getting into.
Can he steal from your character? I'm cool with it if he does, as long as you ask first -- I have a couple of things I'd rather she didn't lose for good. But I'm not exactly looking for it, as might be guessed from the previous answer.
Can he kidnap your character? See manipulate, though I'll probably be more reluctant.
Can he injure your character? See manipulate, though depending on the level of injury I might be more reluctant.
Can he kill your character? See manipulate, but I'm probably not going to want to go that far.

Thanks and I hope that you have fun!
